Why I haven't blogged in forever

"I have an idea. You scream bloody murder while I pull all the blankets off the couch and the keyboard off the computer desk. That should REALLY make her crazy."

"ok go."

The toddler and the infant

A certain sweet big sister toddler tries to be very helpful in our house. She offers her own bottles to baby brother as a superior replacement for the yucky stuff the brother is eating. She gives pacifiers to the brother, but sometimes she misses and ends up trying to stick the pacifier up the brother's nose. She puts blankets on any part of the brother's anatomy she can reach, including over the face. She rescues brother when he cries, and sometimes she pulls him out of his swing and bumps his head. (guess who never gets to be alone with her brother unsupervised anymore). She pushes him in his stroller toward hazards such as fences and, um, ponds. In fact, if it weren't for all the snuggles and kisses, I'd wonder if she weren't trying to kill him.

He knows he's loved, but with so much love of that sort he sometimes worries about whether he'll make it to his first birthday.

Don't worry, bub. Parents are certified affection referees.

Besides, Heidi's too busy going on adventures to terrorize you ALL the time.

The tablecloth of future regret

The journey of a hundred bajillion stitches begins with such an innocuous looking twelve-stitch cast on.

The new arrival: Ion

Ion Martin Friend, born 8:19 am on Jan 26, 2012. Mamma and Daddy are exhausted and happy, and Heidi loves to give Ion many kisses. Ion made up for Heidi's 16 hour labor by arriving less than two hours after we walked through the emergency room door, and Mamma is trying to decide which is more traumatic: gigantic speed and intensity and fear, or slow building up of pain with frustration at progressing slowly. Not that labor is ever not going to be traumatic.

They NEED to come up with a better way to get these muffins out.

Anyway, here he is.

Toddler havoc

This is a lint trap. With a wooden stacking ring inside it. This would have been funny if, you know, it were funny.

All's well that ends well, though. Daddy rescued the dryer (we really could have cared less about the toy today) and the toy was restored to the baby (who did care about it). And there was no disassembly required, which surprised me.

Knitting For Baby Boy

Finished objects this week: Diagonal Garter Stitch Baby Blanket (by me) and Ridiculously Cute Horse (by Ryan).

Have I mentioned that Ryan only learned to knit in November? As a gesture of solidarity with my dream of teaching knitting classes?

I take all the credit for being an awesome teacher. Except not, because between the time I spend designing patterns for new modules, planning scripts and videos (which he then films, records and edits), teaching, and jealously hoarding my own personal knitting time, he gets told "figure it out your own darn self" more often than not.

Just kidding. I help. I really do. I just also strongly encourage him to be a self-reliant knitter. This is a good thing, no?

I'm so proud of him.
